Introduction

Here’s what you can look forward to when you live with us:

  • Supportive Staff: Our dedicated team is always available right in your building to help you feel at home
  • Academic Success: Studies show students who live on campus are more likely to graduate in four years—though, of course, the studying part is up to you
  • Community Connections: Meet and connect with a varied group of peers, building friendships that last a lifetime
  • Convenience: Stay close to your classes and all the action happening on campus
  • Opportunities: Discover leadership roles and on-campus job opportunities that enrich your college journey

First-Year Living

We offer a variety of housing options, but our suite-style residence halls are especially popular among first-year students. The Suite Double with a Shared Bath is the most common layout, featuring two double-occupancy rooms connected by a shared bathroom.

This setup means:

  • No long trips down the hall to use the restroom.
  • More chances to make friends with your suitemates!

Most on-campus students share a bedroom and a bathroom with at least one other person. Be sure you’re comfortable with this arrangement before choosing to live on campus. If you have a documented disability that requires specific housing accommodations, please connect with the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) and submit your documentation as early as possible.

What’s Included?

Leave your furniture at home—we’ve got you covered! Every student gets:

  • A bed, desk, chair, dresser, and closet
  • A mini-fridge in every room

All residence halls also feature common areas where you can study, cook, and do laundry, so you’ll have everything you need to live comfortably.

Now that you have a general overview of who we are, and what we offer, let’s dive a little deeper into University Housing!

Historic Renovated Halls

Some of the most unique and prestigious living spaces at FSU are the historically renovated residence halls. Constructed in the early 20th century, these buildings have been updated to blend historic charm with modern convenience. Bryan Hall, built in 1907, is the oldest residence hall and originally housed students from the Florida Female College. It was renovated in 1997 to create a suite-style layout, recapturing the elegance of its original design while offering modern amenities like study spaces, lounges, and in-house classrooms.

The complete list of historically renovated halls includes:

  • Bryan Hall (1907)
  • Reynolds Hall (1911)
  • Broward Hall (1917)
  • Jennie Murphree Hall (1921)
  • Gilchrist Hall (1926)
  • Landis Hall (1939)
  • Cawthon Hall (1948)

Historic Halls Features

These halls are located around Landis Green, providing easy access to Strozier Library, Suwannee Dining a buffet style dining hall, and other campus hotspots. Their unique layouts include various room types, such as suite triples, which aren't available in newer halls. The buildings boast timeless architectural features while incorporating updates like shared bathroom connecting rooms, study lounges, and community spaces.

These halls prioritize first-year students, but a limited number of spaces are reserved for returning upper-division students. If you're seeking an immersive campus experience rich in history and community, these halls are an excellent choice.

These halls primarily house upper-division students, but a few spaces in McCollum and Ragans Hall are available for first-year students.

Apartment-Style Hall Features

These halls include fully equipped kitchens, living spaces, and individual or shared bedrooms, making them ideal for students seeking a more private and self-sufficient environment. One of their standout benefits is that they remain open during winter and spring breaks, as well as between semesters, providing flexibility for residents who need continuous access to housing.

Location and Highlights

Ragans and Traditions Halls: Located near the heart of campus life, these halls are close to the Leach Recreation Center, Doak Campbell Stadium, and other sports facilities. Whether you want to stay active or catch a Seminoles game, you’ll be right where the action happens.

McCollum and Rogers Halls: Situated near the Seminole Café a buffet style dining hall, and tennis courts. These halls provide easy access to outdoor activities and dining options. They’re also near the residence halls' community hub, making it easy to connect with friends and peers.

Availability

Rogers and Traditions Halls exclusively accommodate upper-division students, while McCollum and Ragans Halls offer limited spaces for first-year students. Given their popularity and limited availability, these halls are highly sought after by students looking for a more independent college living experience.
